The world's first Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified pangasius fillet is being sold in Dutch supermarkets by Vinh Hoan Corp. of Vietnam, under the Queens Panga brand distributed by Queens Products.

The ASC certificate for pangasius was awarded to Vinh Hoan Sept. 11. Pangasius was the most commonly consumed fish in the Netherlands in 2011, and Queens Panga is the best-selling brand, with more than thee million bags sold last year. Now that pangasius has been ASC certified, the range of fish with this label has grown strongly.

"We hold a leading position in terms of research into increased sustainability of production," said Truong Thi Le Khanh, managing director of Vinh Hoan. "We were the only company selected for an ASC pilot, with checks being carried out in June 2012. We are now the first pangasius producer with an ASC certificate for a pangasius farm. We hope consumers appreciate this and opt for our products," she added.
