Guangdong Swire is a joint venture between John Swire & Sons Pty and Guangdong Foodstuffs, which holds the remaining 40% interest, and was established in June 2008. The company operates a "world's best practice" 24,000-pallet facility at Huangpu in Guangzhou, where it also operates a 16,000-ton capacity traditional cold store. Craig Bowyer is its general manager. Reason for the transaction given by Swire Pacific is that it "enables the Company, through the Purchaser, to expand and develop its cold storage business in the PRC."
