Carl's Jr is the flagship chain of American restaurant operator CKE Restaurants and is currently looking for franchise partners to drive the growth.

The move is part of the chain's efforts to double its international footprint by 2018.

CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder told Inside Retail that the quick service restaurant sector in Australia is growing rapidly, presenting an opportunity for the company and the response from potential partners has been very positive.

Carl's Jr opened eight stores in New Zealand during the past 18 months.

Founded in 1941, Carl's Jr currently operates over 1,200 restaurants globally with efforts afoot to expand operations in Dominican Republic, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Malaysia, Denmark, Costa Rica, Singapore, Russia, Vietnam, Turkey and China.

CKE Restaurants opeartes nearly 3300 restaurants, across 27 countries.
