Minister of state for commerce & industry D Purandeswari in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday gave information on exports of coconut oil during the last three years and the current year.

The details are as under:

Year Quantity (MT) Value (Rs in lakh)
Oct-09 5,080.98 4,002.95
Nov-10 4,342.57 4,008.98

The export potential of agricultural and food products, such as coconut oil, depends on various factors including availability of surplus over and above the domestic requirements, requirement of buffer stock including strategic reserve, if any, international demand and supply situation, quality standards in the importing countries, varieties traded and price competitiveness etc. and hence cannot be quantified.

The government, vide Notification No. 32 (RE-2012) 2009-14 dated February 5, 2013, has allowed export of coconut oil, which was allowed only through Kochi port earlier, from all EDI ports and from Land Customs Stations (LCS) to be notified separately. The Coconut Development Board, as Export Promotion Council for Coconut (except coir) is taking various steps like mounting trade delegations, participation in international trade fairs and so on to promote the export of coconut oil. Also coconut oil exports are eligible for Duty Drawback of 2 per cent on FOB value.
