About the consultation
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency （CFIA） has launched a 90-day public consultation on proposed changes to beer compositional standards under the Food and Drug Regulations.
Objective
The Government of Canada is moving forward to modernize its regulations related to beer compositional standards in order to better reflect the tastes and preferences of consumers, and allow for industry innovation.
Proposed changes would remove duplication of the standard for ale, stout, porter and malt liquor, make it clearer for brewers which ingredients could be used, and allow industry to be more innovative in product development, while maintaining the integrity of beer.
The proposed changes also include labelling changes that would require brewers to identify food allergens, gluten sources or added sulphites.
