The name of German discounter 'Aktiv Discount' will disappear. From December smaller branches will be called 'Edeka' and the larger branches 'E-Center'. "The change to the Edeka format is the final step towards integration of the Aktiv discounters," explained Andreas Laubig, spokesman for Edeka Minden-Hannover. The 14 shops in the region were owned by Siegfried Schausberger but he sold these to Edeka in 2000. "In the past the shops were run by branch managers, but nowadays through independent retailers," said Laubig.

Torsten Cord has been self employed since the summer of 2012. "Since then we have had a full Edeka range available which we didn't have as an Aktiv-Discounter," explained the owner of the shop, in Leherheide (Bremerhaven), soon to be called 'Edeka Cord'.
