US-based fast-casual restaurant The Pizza Studio has signed a contract with veteran restaurant entrepreneur George Katakalidis to open 20 new outlets in San Diego, California.

The first restaurant will open in downtown San Diego in January 2014, while the second will be based in Kearny Mesa in March 2014. All 20 outlets will open within five years.

Katakalidis said, "Pizza Studio has a fantastic product and operational setup and I could not be more pleased to be their partner in San Diego County."

The Pizza Studio invites guests to create their own custom pizza. It offers a wide assortment of crusts, specialty sauces, premium meats, fresh and roasted vegetables, and ingredients.

Since its founding in 2012, The Pizza Studio has entered into development agreements with multi-unit operators for 95 units across the country and projects. The company expects to announce 150 signed units by the end of the year.
